Digital Resources for Mental Health Professionals: Psychiatry & Psychology Podcasts
This is a list of psychiatry podcasts that I have found useful. This post is part of a series of on digital resources for mental health professionals.
- Psychiatry & Psychotherapy Podcast by Dr. David J. Puder is in my opinion the best psychiatry podcast online. It has been running for a very long time and has covered excellent topics with great care. He also interviews a wide array of experts. Each episode comes with detailed show notes. Episodes run for a little longer than an hour.
- Psychopharmacology and Psychiatry Updates by the Psychopharmacology Institute is very useful in listening to highly relevant and short updates on the latest pharmacological treatment updates in psychiatry. It claims to be free from commercial bias and is not sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. Episodes rarely exceed 15 minutes in duration.
- Psychiatry Boot Camp by Dr. Mark Mullen is an excellent resource for psychiatry students. It was originally created to help US doctors prepare for their residency but it is quite useful for anyone studying psychiatry anywhere or anyone who wants to refresh their knowledge.
- Learn Psych. Last updated in 2018 but it is still available online. Very useful educational podcast about psychiatry for students and trainees. Each episode is less than one hour.
- The Royal College of Psychiatrists Podcast This one isn't consistent in terms of focus. Originally hosted by Raj Persaud for several years. Now it occasionally covers events related to the college, international days of obsevance and less frequently educational topics that may be of interest to psychiatrists outside the UK. Some episodes offer CPD points.
- The Mental Elf Podcast by the blog with the same name aims to present latest mental health research in an accessible format. High UK focus and a lot of topics are on service delivery.
- The History of Drugs Podcast Very interesting if you would like to know more about the history of drugs and drug use. It covers topics ranging from the use of opium in China during the 19th century to the opioid epidemic in the US.
- The Drug Science Podcast. This podcast by Prof. David Nutt discusses research, harm reduction, drug policy, and the science behind drugs. Drug Science is an organisation trying to promote the use of psychedelics in psychiatric research and treatment.
- On the Mind is the official podcast from the Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Hosts expert guests on issues related to the brain, mental health and psychiatry.
- Cochrane Library Podcasts (direct link to the RSS feed) Brief summaries of the latest Cochrane Systematic Reviews.
